Phonics

Phonics is a very important part of a child's learning. They use their knowledge of phonics to help with reading and spelling. At Hawthorn Primary School we follow Letters and Sounds phonics programme.
In English there are 44 phonemes (sounds) made up from a combination of different letters.

The children are taught how to pronounce the phonemes in order to make reading and spelling easier.
