In English, we have been reading 'Yucky Worms' by Vivian French and 'Jolly Snow' by Jane Hissey. The children have been learning lots on interesting facts about earthworms, such as worms have no eyes! The children were very excited to go and look for worms outside!
We looked at the front cover of 'Jolly Snow' and predicted what we thought was going to happen in the story. We then discussed what we liked and disliked about the story.
For European Languages week, we have been learning all about Spain. We looked at the flag and located Spain on a map. We learnt some of the Spanish language and the names of some of the colours too. We know how to say hello, goodbye and happy birthday in Spanish. We even got to taste some churros!
In computing, we have been learning how to program and sequence instructions by using the bee-bot app. We then used actual Bee-bots and programmed instructions to make them move. We learnt how to make the Bee-bots move forwards, backwards and turn left and right. We had lots of fun!
In maths, we have been adding and subtracting numbers within 10. We used numicon, cubes and ten frames to help us. have also been finding number bonds within 10.
In art, we have been exploring colour mixing using the three primary colours.
We looked at the art work of Wassily Kandinsky and then used paint to replicate his 'circle painting'. We made sure we used lots of bright colours just like Kandinsky does!
What a fantastic start to the year! All of the children have been superstars this week and have settled into class and daily routines. Throughout the week, we have practised our handwriting and number formation, created self portraits and thought about what we are looking forward to in Year 1. The children have all worked very hard throughout the week and tried their best!
