Edible Playground After School Club

At Hawthorn Primary School we have been very lucky to be involved with the Edible Playground project.  Each class has their own raised bed in which they can plant vegetables of their choosing.

In our Edible Playground after school club we also have an area in which we can grow fruits and vegetables.

In this club we will plan what to plant, plant our seeds, nurture the seedlings and young plants before we harvest our plants and cook with them.

Hopefully we will learn skills that will help us to plant up an area at home of we want to.

A bountiful gardening club tonight. We planted out some leeks and harvested chard to take home and cook.

Lots of hard work going on tonight. We weeded the top strawberry beds to clear them ready for winter.  We also started the big job of pruning our willow structure.

The weather was against us today and the ground was far too wet to plant our bulbs.
Instead of planting, we prepared for next week by making signs to keep our bulbs safe when they begin to flower in the spring.
We are going to plant these Purple crocus bulbs in our orchard To recognise World Polio Awareness day on 22nd October.
