Spring 1 - A Toy's Story: Journey from the Past

History of toys:
We completed an oracy activity where we had to group toys into a category based on prior learning about past and present toy features.

We have also looked at timelines and sequenced changes to toys from past to present.
A Toy's Story: Journey from the Past
We went to The Discovery Museum to look at toys from the past and how they have changed through the years. We then read Lost in the Toy Museum by David Lucas and linked it to what we saw.
To enhance our 'drama and theatrical' knowledge we visited The Tyne Theatre to watch the performance of 'The Smartest Giant in Town.'
Some of us made 'storytelling boxes and pages' at home so we could use them to tell a story. We then planned and wrote our own simple stories and performed them to each other! We had to use our imaginations, listening and speaking skills. When we were reading our stories we thought about our tone of voice and body language.
We visited Scotswood Gardens to take our learning outside! We participated in many activities including den building, creating wooden tree discs, decorating tree branches with ribbon and then enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate!
Our maths this half term is looking at multiples of 10. We then explored composition of numbers 20-100.
