Our Class

Welcome to Year 3 at Hawthorn. This is where your child’s journey into Key Stage 2 begins. I have the pleasure of teaching your children again this year and they are very lucky to have Miss Good supporting the class too. We have really missed you all.

We will be learning about a range of different topics over the course of the year in exciting and creative ways, including the Stone Age and the Egyptians. Please look at our topic webs to see what we will be doing in more detail every half term. We appreciate things are going to be different during this academic year but as a school we will endeavour to give your children the wonderful opportunities they deserve. I will be regularly updating our page with lots of ideas about how you can continue to support your children at home with their homework for example, so keep checking this.

Thank you

Mrs Joanne Kennedy

Your children will be given spellings and a piece of Maths work every Monday. These do not need to be handed in but their spellings will be tested on a Friday.

Reading books bags must be brought back into school every Thursday and sent home on a Monday.

Please ensure your child has trainers in school on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On their return to school we felt it was very important to welcome the children back into their school environment with a well being focus. They will have the opportunity to share, reflect and complete work around a range of texts which promote this. Giving the children opportunities to talk about how they feel and have felt whilst being off school is crucial to their well being. Year 3 are going to use ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. This stunning book really allows the children to reflect on what is happening in the world today and the many changes which have occurred.

We have started to use ‘Zones of Regulation’ to support the many emotions the children may feel. We are providing them with the tools they can use to help them. Check out our display.
We are here to help your child to achieve their best, so if you ever need to speak to us, please remember that the staff in Year 3 are here to help.
