In Reception, we teach the children to read using a scheme called 'Read, Write Inc.' The children are taught the sounds in set 1 through-out the year and then begin to blend these sounds together to read simple words. By the end of the year, the children will be able to read and spell simple words and also simple sentences. They will be asked to read books at home which match their phonics abilities, school provide these books but there are also lots of free e-books for parents and carers on Oxford Owl.
