Autumn Term

Welcome to Year 1

We have all settled in Year 1 brilliantly!
We have been learning all about toys from the past and present. We have had so much fun so far.

We visited the Discovery Museum

We played with lots of toys!

We found out that our toys in a present are made of lots of materials, including plastic, metal and wood. Some toys in the present are powered by batteries and electricity.
Then, we found out about toys Miss Calladine played with in the 2000s and toys her grown ups played with in the 1980s. They were still made of lots of materials and powered with batteries and electricity.
Finally, we found out about Victorian toys. This was 200 years ago, and there was no plastic, electricity or batteries in toys. We loved the spinning tops and marbles.

English

We are building our sentence construction skills, perfecting the use of a capital letter, finger spaces and full stops.

We are working on our ORACY skills, our target is to listen to each other and use a clear voice.

Maths
We have looked at place value and composition of numbers within 10. We are mastering our counting up to 100!

Art
There is a focus on drawing and painting during autumn term and developing key skills to be able to do this effectively. We have looked at the work of Alma Thomas and Wassily Kandinsky to spark our curiosity and interest!

PE
We have been working on our fundamental movements. This is movements such as balancing, running, jogging, jumping, hopping, galloping and side step. We participate in team games that enhance these skills along with throwing, catching and team work.
