Spring Term

PE

Year 4 love staying active.  This term we have been improving our skills in basketball and tag rugby and we have alsotaken part in Healthy Active Lifestyle and Multi Skills sessions.

Safer Internet Day 2026

For Safer Internet Day 2026, Year 4 explored the topic of AI and how it is used in our daily lives. The children discussed different scenarios and shared advice on how to use AI safely and responsibly. They showed excellent awareness and thoughtful ideas about staying safe online and making sensible digital choices.

Science

Year 4 explored the question: Does gas have mass? The children made predictions and planned their investigation before heading to the outdoor classroom. Using bottles of fizzy pop, they weighed them before and after shaking to release the gas and recorded their results. Great scientific thinking and teamwork from everyone involved.

Coding at Newcastle University

On the coding trip to Newcastle University, the children worked in pairs to create, test and edit code to control a robot.  They experimented with different commands, fixed problems when the robot did not move as expected and improved their programs through teamwork and problem solving.  This helped them to develop their coding skills, logical thinking and collaboration.  Well done Year 4!

Naomi Barley

Local author Naomi Barley visited Year 4 and we absolutly loved listening to her story and creating our own story maps.  She presented our reading challenge winner with a fabulous reading cushion too.

Parent Workshop

Year 4 had a great time during our parent workshop creating mountain inspired collages.  Thank you to all parents who atteneded and supported the children with their artwork.

World Book Day 2026

Year 4 had so much fun dressing up as their favourite book characters or in their favourite clothes for World Book day.  We enjoyed making our own bookmarks, taking part in a quiz and sharing some of our writing with our friends in Year 3.  What a great day!

Festival of Languages

This year we have been taking part in the Festival of Languages with the 'Together We Fly' project.  We have created origami butterflies and written messages of friendship inside.  We could write our messages in English or French, or a language which we speak at home. Don't they look fantastic?

Children's Mental Health Week 2026

As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, Year 4 explored the theme of belonging. We discussed what it means to belong and how it feels to be part of a community. The children then created personalised maps of “our place,” including the people, spaces and activities that help them feel safe, valued and connected. It was a thoughtful and creative session with some wonderful ideas shared.

Visiting Cruddas Park Library.

Year 4 love visiting the local library!  We changed our books and listened to a story read by one of our class mates.  Don't forget, you can get your own library card and visit the library outside of school time too!

Green Schools Project

As part of the green schools project Year 4 have been gathering information about school's energy usage, ways we travel to school, food production and waste and purchasing.  During this investigation stage, we produced illustrations to represent our school's carbon footprint.  We submitted data and are now waiting for our school carbon footprint to be calculated.

STEM

We have been working with Nucastle Foundation, taking part in some very fun STEM sessions on Monday afternoons.  We especially enjoyed creating obstacle courses for robots.
