School Council
At Hawthorn Primary School, pupil voice is at the heart of our school community. We believe that every child should have opportunities to share their views, contribute ideas and help shape the future of our school. One of the key ways this happens is through our active and enthusiastic School Council.
Each class from Year 1 to Year 5 elects two representatives to serve on the School Council. Year 6 pupils take on key leadership roles within the school, with four members serving as Head Girl, Head Boy, Deputy Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy. Together, these pupils act as ambassadors for the school and help ensure that the views, ideas and suggestions of all children are heard and valued.
What Does the School Council Do?
The School Council meets fortnightly with Mrs Clayton to discuss issues that matter to pupils and explore ways to make our school even better. Council members:
- Represent the views and opinions of their class.
- Take part in discussions, debates and decision-making.
- Gather ideas and feedback from their classmates.
- Share important information and outcomes from meetings.
- Help organise and promote fundraising events and charitable activities.
- Suggest improvements to learning, playtimes, clubs and the wider school environment.
Through their involvement in the School Council, pupils develop leadership skills, confidence and a sense of responsibility while helping to make a positive difference to school life. The School Council plays an important role in ensuring that every child's voice is heard and that our school continues to be a place where pupils feel valued, respected and empowered.
