Modern Foreign Language at Hawthorn

MFL at Hawthorn

At our school, learning a Modern Foreign Language is an important part of developing pupils’ communication skills and cultural awareness. We teach French from Year 3 to Year 6, giving children a strong foundation in language learning as they progress through Key Stage 2.

 Our Approach

We follow the Primary French Project programme, which provides an engaging and interactive approach to learning. Lessons include a range of activities such as games, songs, stories, and speaking tasks that help to build confidence and enjoyment.  Through high-quality teaching and the Primary French Project, children develop skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.  A key feature of the programme is the opportunity for pupils to listen to native French speakers, supporting accurate pronunciation and developing strong listening skills.

 Joyeux Noel!

Year 4 designed their own Christmas jumpers and then described them in French.  Take a look at some of their amazing work!

French Written Exchange

Year 4, 5 & 6 have recieved some very exciting letters from our pen pals in France. We enjoyed writing and sending our replies, writing about ourselves in French.
