Fun in the snow!

It snowed today and we were all very excited. We put our wellies on and wrapped up ready to explore outside. Just like in the story "The Gruffalo's Child", we spotted marks in the snow. The children enjoyed finding marks in the snow and discussing which animal may have left them. Some children worked together to make a snowman. 

Science and Design Technology

After reading the book "Journey Home" we decided to make our own boats, but first we needed to see which materials would be good for a boat. The children carried out an experiment to see which materials would float and sink. They then designed and created their boats before testing them in the water tray.  

Spring 2 

Pe days are a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please make sure your child comes to school in trainers ready for PE.

The Gruffalo

We have been reading the Gruffalo in Reception and have enjoyed acting out the characters parts, making our own Gruffalos using clay and making Gruffalo Crumble.  We have also created our own log pile houses for the snake to live in. 

A visit from the fire station

We have been learning about people who help us and have looked at lots of different people such as firefighters, police, the ambulance, shop workers, bus drivers, vets and many more.   We were very lucky to have the Tyneside Fire and Rescue service come into school. The children enjoyed seeing the fire engine close up and getting a chance to sit in it. We also got to use the hose. The children had such a lovely time and asked Firefighter Dean some great questions.  Then when we read our book the children were keen to point out that they could see the hose- like the one they used! Fantastic! 

PE

In PE this half term we have been practising some fundamental skills. We have focussed on jumping and rolling. Over the past six weeks the children have practised balancing, different jumps and landing on two feet when jumping. We have aso tried some new rolls such as the pencil roll and the egg roll. What a fantastic half term of PE we have had!

Internet safety Day

The topic for Internet Safety Day was the use of AI (Artifical Intelligence.) We looked at pictures and had to decide if they were real or fake. The children were good at spotting fake images made by a computer. The children then looked at how pictures can be changed by AI and were very suprised to see the results. After reading about Timmy's Talking Tablet the children designed their own AI robot to help keep them safe online.

Spring 2 - Looking for signs of Spring. 

We went for a walk around the school grounds, the Orchard and the forest to see if we coud spot some signs of Spring. The children enjoyed talking about the different coloured flowers they could see as well as spotting buds on the trees.
