Year 6

Hello and Welcome to Year 6,

The children work very hard preparing for the end of Key Stage 2 SATs. Although the work is challenging, we minimise the pressure by creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment enabling the children to excel.
We value the support of parents and guardians and we will be creating lots of opportunities to invite you into class to work alongside your child and to see the progress they have made.

In English we have written mythical stories using the story of Beowulf as our stimuli. This whole class worked hard to make their story exciting and use a range of vocabulary as well as a range of punctuation within their writing.

The children also had to plan their story and the draft it and then finally write it up in neat once they have edited their work.
In Maths we have just completed our ‘Number unit which involved us using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. During this unit of work we have;
  • Solved addition and subtraction multi steps in content
  • Multiplied multi digit numbers up to 4 digits by a 2-digit number using the formal written method of long multiplication.
  • Divided numbers up to 4 digits by a 2-digit whole number using the formal written method of long division,
  • Performed mental calculations, including with mixed operations and large numbers.
  • Identify common factors, common multiples and prime numbers.
  • Used all four operations to complete Bodmas calculations.
In Science  we have been researching Charles Darwin and looking at his research in evolution.
In Geography  we have been studying maps! We have looked at how and why we use map, what maps look like, how maps are drawn to scale, symbols on a map a and how we would use a map to find our way!
