Spring Term (A) - How would the world be impacted if the Amazon Rainforest didn’t exist?

This term the children will explore and locate rainforests in the world and study the climate. They will compare the climate to that of the North East. We will be visiting a 'real-life' rainforest at the Winter Garden Museum in Sunderland to help bring this topic to life. The children will understand what is meant by deforestation and human uses of forests. They will look at the impact in the world of the loss of the Amazon rainforest.

Monday 5th February 2024.

We went to the Winter Gardens Museum in Sunderland as part of our ‘Rainforests’ topic. We shared our knowledge with Marie who works in the museum and sorted where different animals and plants live. We could all talk about the different layers in the rainforest too! Then we became explorers! We had the opportunity to go into the museum’s rainforest and find lots of clues. Every clue shared information about the rainforest which was so much fun. We even got to feed the fish.

Liz Millions, an author and illustrator came into our school and shared lots of her work. The children had the opportunity to be an illustrator for the morning and sketched a sloth, snake and leaf from the rainforest. They were incredible and really inspired to show their best work!
Safer Internet Day 2024.
We have celebrated Safer Internet Day, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’.
The children worked in groups to decide where each scenario given would go. We really had some fantastic discussions today and enjoyed being part of this important day about online safety.
